Module 1 ( core module )

Abattoir Welfare Assessment 

​

This is a mandatory module -

1 day classroom and

1 day abattoir (2 days in total) comprising;

Day 1 :

Classroom - Understanding the issues and assessment procedures

Preparing an inspection protocol

 

Day 2 :

Visit to abattoir for assessment ( am )

Report writing and presentation ( pm )

Abattoir Welfare Assessment 

 

The choice for the candidate will be

 

 a) White meat abattoir assessment      or         b) Red Meat abattoir assessment

Module 2  

Elective number 1

 

 The candidate chooses 1 elective module for the options list below;

 

Day 1 :  

Classroom activity – training and preparation for ‘candidate written report’ 

 

Submit report  – Candidate writes report in their own time and submits it for assessment by AWT. Guidance on the content of the report is provided.

Module 3  

Elective number 2

 

 The candidate chooses 1 elective module for the options list below;

 

Day 1 :  

Classroom activity – training and preparation for ‘candidate written report’

Deliverables

 

  1. Elective Module 2 report – to be submitted within 3 months (90 days) of carrying out the classroom activity for this module.

  2. Elective Module 3 report – to be submitted within 3 months (90 days) of carrying out the classroom activity for this module.

 

Final Assessment and certification

​

1.   Should a candidate achieve < 40% for an individual module he / she will

        receive only a certificate of attendance.

2.   Should a candidate achieve >=50%  overall score he / she will receive a

        full certificate.

3.   Should a candidate achieve >=60% overall score he / she will receive a  

        certificate with distinction.

Successful completion of the SAWOP course and the elective assessments will result in award of an AWT SAWOP certificate.
